Would you like to be a magical girl?

Ever tried watching those magical girl animes? in Cardcaptor Sakura she became a magical girl after agreeing to return the clow cards back to the book with the help of Keroberus the guardian. In Magical Lyrical Girl Nanoha after saving a ferret who turns out to be a boy from harm she was given Raging Heart and became a magical girl. Seen the pattern? Girl meets cute entity and gains powers to do the duty given to her. Puella Magi Madoka Magica has the same concept, in a fictional city set in japan Madoka and friends met this cute entity named Kyubey and was asked “Would you like to form a contract with me?” in which Kyubey will grant the girls any wish in exchange for magical powers. Once they have their powers they were to go on witch hunts and defeat them to gain grief seeds and replenish their soul gems of magical powers.

Now here is the fun part, what makes this show different from other magical girl shows? It’s best to watch it than to read about it here but read further if you want. Upon watching a few episodes of it, it will eventually reveal itself after a certain person loses a head of herself. (bad pun) That the soul gems they posses now hold their soul and once it gets corrupted with despair they shall become witches. It also introduces Kyubey as an alien life form that came to the world and become the incubator of the magical girls for the research and experiments of its species.

Now this has become quite a shock for me the first time watching it because of my expectation that it would just be another cute and heartwarming magical girl story, this show has successfully took my innocence as a lover of magical girl genres with the sudden throw into dark and despair way of telling a magical girl story. It might not be the best plot twist I could write about at this moment but it was sure memorable that it deserves to be known, words can’t describe the feels hidden within me. Stop reading this and go watch Puella Magi Madoka Magica now!

Writer's Note:
This was one of my earliest works and was used in a creative writing class, you can check the original post here, though it's inactive now so I'll be transferring most of the works here.
